What is Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a counselling psychotherapy that uses art materials and art making to facilitate growth, exploration, enlightenment and understanding of emotions, behaviours and feelings.
An Allied Health and Mental Health profession Art Therapy is evidence based and uses psychological principals. At Bloom Art Therapy and Counselling we provide a containing safe space to explore individually or in group settings. Clients are encouraged to use art materials and the process of creating to express themselves in non verbal ways, connect with their emotions and a deeper sense of self.
Through Art making people can regulate their nervous system and explore ways to experience events and emotions in a different way drawing on the neuroplasticity of the brain to create new neural pathways.
Facilitated art making can allow a playfulness to emerge, the integration of past events and personal insights to form.
Empowerment, choice and control are all central to the Art Therapy process.
